A new article from Chron.com poses the question of whether the recent actions of celebrities have put underage drinking in the national spotlight.
Many singers, including Jesse McCartney and Jojo, have been spotted recently going to clubs. Both are underage; Jojo is only 15 years old. The issue was most recently brought to attention because of 20 year old Lindsay Lohan's Memorial Weekend DUI charge and subsequent trip to rehab.
The CEO of Splash News was quoted as saying, "The clubs love the attention, but if this was any other underage kid, the police would have swooped in on the club."
What's the big deal? Obviously you don't want kids -- or anyone -- to drive while drunk, but just to drink? Who cares? Lindsay Lohan is 20 years old. All across the country, 20 year old will be getting hammered at graduation parties this weekend. The only difference is, they don't have photographers following them around. Fifteen is pretty young, but stars who are 18, 19, 20 years old shouldn't be criticized for drinking. The 21 year old drinking law is stupid to begin with. Until every murder and rape in the country is solved, no one should get in trouble for drinking a beer. If you don't approve of underaging drinking, then don't drink, or don't let your kids drink. Leave Lindsay Lohan alone. I mean, feel free to make fun of her, just not for that.
