Last week, Vanilla Ice finished yet another B-list celebrity reality show, "Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge." While it seems that Mr. Van Winkle will perpetually show up on these types of shows from now on, the memories of the good ol' days still lurk in our collective early-90s unconsciousness. Today, we take a look back at his life and career via video.
The Early Days
Before he hit it big, Ice was interviewed
outside of a Miami club talking about Tone Loc, Bing Crosby, and
crack. You gotsta check out V.I.'s "brick haircut" in this one. Also,
best interview question ever: "What do you y'all think of video? Is
it, like, really cool or what?"
Ice, Ice Baby
A1A/Beachfront Avenue!
First hip-hop song to go #1 on the charts.
Saturday Night Live
"Ice, Ice Baby" was the deal in America and Ice performed on SNL.
Word to your mother.
Fame
Remember "A Current Affair"? Make sure you watch this till the end:
Notes:
Whoever wrote the opening dialogue for that chick deserves a Pulitzer.
Whoever did her hair deserves some kind of hair award.
Best V.I. Quote/Most Damning Quote Ever: "Time will tell if the Ice is legit. This movie [Cool As Ice] will set people straight, though."
Second Best V.I. Quote: "It's not me, it's not my story, but there are a lot of things in the movie that relate to me. Like, um, ridin' motorcycles -- that's right up my alley."
And here's Mr. Van Winkle on Arsenio's show:
Best V.I. Quote: "I'm in it to win it, man."
Best Arsenio Quote: "This is what I do, I get to the bottom of it."
Really? I didn't know you were such the investigative journalist, Mr. Hall.
