It appears that well, Patrick Stump and Ashlee Simpson had nothing to do with the song "Black and Light." At least according to Pete Wentz, who felt the need to set the record straight.

Pete e-mailed MTV news, concering the story of the song, saying, "The story isn't true ... someone got a bit off-base in the communication. Ash didn't work on it and neither did Patrick. I have no idea what the deal is, but they both told me they hadn't worked on it."

Apparently, Gabe Saporta also weighed in and said that he figured Victoria just wanted to give credit to anyone and everyone who helped her -- and noted Patrick was showing her how to use the GarageBand program while the bands were on tour together, and she may have passed some lyrics past Ashlee Simpson, but chances are, they didn't collaborate on the song.

An official statement from Patrick Stump, via his management company echoed this sentiment -- the statement reads:
I just finished producing the Cobra Starship record. While we were doing pre-production for the album, I was showing Victoria how to use GarageBand, I'm not familiar with the song in question, it might be something she made after I taught her some programming, but I was not creatively involved whatsoever. If you want to hear what I produced and collaborated on, check out the new CS album Viva La Cobra! in October.
To top things off, Vicky has removed the specific message from her MySpace, though the song remains. So everyone who quoted it looks dumb. Thanks a lot for making us all look dumb, Vicky!
