Trace Adkins said he recorded his new single, a ballad called "I Wanna Feel Something," because he felt it was timely. Adkins said:

"We're just so overwhelmed and bombarded with information that it's hard to get a rise out of us anymore - about anything. It seems like it has to be something really shocking for us to stop and go, Wow!"

Didn't Tool try this more than a decade ago with "Stinkfist?" Granted, that one wasn't quite a ballad, but ... same diff.

Anyway, maybe it's not the first time someone has written a song about desensitization but it is in fact Trace's first time behind the boards. Adkins produced the single alongside Casey Beathard and Kenny Beard.
