The celebration for Trace Adkins' latest single, "Ladies Love Country Boys," was standing room only at an Irish pub on Music Row. The party, thrown by royalty collection agencies ASCAP and BMI, was to honor Adkins and the three songwriters.

CMT's report says the party generated so much noise that it was nearly impossible to hear what the presenters were saying when they handed out the awards. Thanks for the details CMT, very helpful.

One interesting moment came when one of the ASCAP reps hyped songwriter Rivers Rutherford's "impressive" voice, noting that he had performed "When I Get Where I'm Going" at last year's ASCAP awards ceremony. Sounds like Rutherford might be making the artist crossover in the future.

Two of the three songwriters had collaborated with Adkins in the past, on "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk," and with George Strait for "Give It Away."

Adkins explained that he chose to record the song because he felt it resembled his life.

"It reminded me of when Rhonda [his wife] and I were getting serious. ... Her parents, the first time they met me, were horrified," Adkins said.
