It's been a few years since anyone has heard from Story of the Year, who were wildly successful in 2003 with their album Page Avenue. The band suffered a bit of a "sophomore slump" and took time off to regroup -- only to sign with Epitaph Records, shunning the major labels. Story of the Year isn't the first band to leave the harsh world of the major labels for an indie or punk label -- nor will they be the last.

Both sides -- the band and the label -- have nothing but great things to say about their pairing. The band's third album is expected in spring 2008.
Brett Gurewitz said of the band, "I always regretted that I hadn’t come across them just a little sooner and perhaps have had the chance to sign them. All I can say is I’m finally redeemed! This is a very big deal for Epitaph.”
The band's manager said that Epitaph understands how music works in 2007, noting, “While major labels are on the panic trail, Epitaph is coming up with great new ideas to help artists reach their fans and make new ones as well. We are excited to release Story of The Year's music with the support of Brett and his team."
Should be interesting to see where this goes, especially since Story of the Year isn't really a typical Epitaph band.... Your thoughts?
