Phantom Planet, best known for 'California', the title song for Fox's "The O.C.", still has no release date for their new album, which was scheduled for release this past spring
The band's guitarist, Darren Robinson, tried to clarify things via MySpace:
In the music industry, the most fun part is of course the music. The "business side" of things is necessary if you want your bands' music to be heard- and we do. But the "business side" is, well, a big pain in the ass. This is the (slightly vague) reason for the huge delay in our record being put out.So really -- very little is known, but the band is doing their best to get that new material out there.
Now- what does this mean for the future of Phantom Planet? Truth is, it has no affect on our band at all, other than the album release date being pushed back a million times. We've been working hard on our new record for quite some time, which is essentially done. "
No one knows what the future holds for Phantom Planet; The O.C. is gone, and the band's founder Jason Schwartzman is still pursuing his, sometimes perplexing, acting career.
But there is a silver lining in the clouds for Phantom Planet fans. Darren goes on to give a mini preview of the album:
There are more than seven songs on our record, of course- but these are the seven that I personally think will make the album when it is released:
1) Raise the Dead
2) Leave Yourself For Somebody Else
3) Dropped
4) Do the Panic (you heard me right)
5) Geronimo
6) Leader
7) Quarantine
You can hear live versions of all these songs on our youtube channel, but the quality very live-sounding. Just go to the Official Phantom Planet youtube Channel and do a search for the new songs you want to hear.
