After Scott Stapp's domestic abuse incident this weekend, the singer was originally charged with felony assault.
Now, some more details, courtesy of E! Online.
Stapp came home at 8AM Sunday morning following a night of partying, and got in a fight with his wife (probably over the fact that he came home at 8AM). Stapp threw a bottle of Orangina, which narrowly missed hitting his wife in the head. The authorities were called, and the problem was compounded by the fact that police called Stapp "deceptive" during questioning. Stapp was forced to spend the night in jail before appearing in court Monday morning.
When he finally got his court appearance, a Florida judge reduced the charge to misdemeanor assault after determining that the Orangina bottle did not constitute a deadly weapon.
Stapp's attorney said, "The facts against him are weak. The judge saw that."
Stapp has been let go under "supervised release," which means he must consistently check in with authorities, cannot drink alcohol, and must submit to random drug testing. He's basically on parole.
Rumor has it Stapp asked the police if he could "create his own prison," but his request was denied. Take a look at the picture to the right. That's a bottle of Orangina. Now, I don't know what happened on Sunday morning at the Stapp residence, but I do know that bottle could seriously mess someone up. The rounded bottom and thin neck make that the perfect bottle for throwing at someone. Also, is it sad that when I heard Scott Stapp threw a bottle, I pictured him with a Smirnoff Ice or Mike's Hard Lemonade?
Never has this song been more fitting...
