Ryan Adams and tear-in-beer backing band The Cardinals are playing Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom on Halloween night. Adams, whose polished sound on recent release Easy Tiger might just reflect a newfound sobriety, has a live history that is hit-or-miss. When not directing crystal clear yet jammable, Dead-meets-Replacements laced alt-country, he's bickering with fans, aborting songs, and falling offstage.

Whatever happens, Adams is responsible for some of the most earnest and underappreciated music of the last decade (says I). Given his disaster-prone history, you should probably check him out before he dies. Tickets are thirty-two bucks and go on sale Friday, August 8th, at 10:00 AM.
