The Who's singer has spoken out against the upcoming Live Earth events, reports NME (from The Sun). Daltrey believes that the concerts will do more harm than good. And, to make things better, he started his rant with the phrase "Bollocks to that!"
Bollocks to that! The last thing the planet needs is a rock concert. I can't believe it. Let's burn even more fuel. We have problems with global warming, but the questions and the answers are so huge I don't know what a rock concert's ever going to do to help.
What did we really achieve at Live8? We got loads of platitudes and no action. Who were we kidding there? At least with Live Aid, Bob Geldof was willing to work the trenches and they did save a lot of lives. We could see what we achieved at the end of it.
Way to bite the hand that feeds. Not one to simply criticize, Daltrey did offer a solution of his own:
My answer is to burn all the fucking oil as quick as possible and then the politicians will have to find a solution.
Daltrey's thoughts about the hypocrisies of Live Earth mirror those made by Muse front man Matt Bellamy a couple weeks ago. The only difference is, Bellamy didn't offer a solution and Daltrey offered the worst solution ever. Burn up all the oil? Great plan, Rog. The Live Earth events may not raise much awareness about global warming -- isn't everyone already aware of it? -- but at least there are a bunch of great bands. Ever since Tibet got free, there has been a lack of quality social-awareness concerts.
