No thanks to Mr. Burns, Springfield will be getting a lot groovier today. In a move that would definitely make Otto the bus driver very happy, ex-Phish keyboardist Page McConnell will play at the premier of The Simpsons Movie this afternoon in Springfield, Vermont.
Vermont is currently hosting the gala “Hometown Premier” after its Springfield beat out thirteen other Springfields across the country in a contest sponsored by USA Today. The premier will also feature appearances by Simpsons producers Matt Groening, Jim Brooks, Al Jean, Richard Sakai and, David Silverman.
This is not the first time McConnell has journeyed to Springfield. In 2002, he appeared on the FOX animated series with the rest of his Phish band-mates. Although the Vermont-based group has since broken up, its members continue to tour and record on their own. McConnell is scheduled to play a short set for VIPs featuring material from his new self-titled album. Sadly, no word yet on a Phish reunion (animated, or otherwise).
