Dr. Michael Baden's testimony actually left prosecutor Alan Jackson speechless for a few moments yesterday -- which is phenomenal in and of itself.
Dr. Baden is a crime expert known the world over -- and his testimony is not tainted by any possibly shady behavior, which overshadowed the testimony of Dr. Henry Lee. Baden testified that he was certain Clarkson shot herself and did not die due to any action of Phil Spector. He told the court, “An injury in the mouth is almost always self-inflicted. And the injury to the acrylic on the thumbnail is consistent with other injuries to thumbs in persons I have seen who use the thumb to discharge a weapon.”
Further, he put forth that the reason Spector had blood on his coat was Clarkson actually lived for a few minutes after the gun went off. This is the most surprsing testimony yet -- and the words left Alan Jackson temporarially speechless. Of course, he made a comeback and asked for it to the stricken from the record. His response? “Now they’ve brought Lana Clarkson back to life to explain this testimony. They want Lana Clarkson in that chair coughing on Phil Spector.”
It should be interesting to see where this goes. It's safe to say Dr. Baden is the strongest witness the defense has brought to cour to date -- and the trial is heading on to its 50th day. That said, is his testimony enough to keep the producer out of jail?
