The retired-then-not-retired singer is loving his US tour with Amy Winehouse -- particularly due to warm reactions and diverse audiences. Despite having his feelings hurt because of message board comments, he's now in love with performing again.
Speaking to the NME,
One night there were about 20 real hip-hop people, four soccer moms and some fashion kids in the audience. That's what I like to see with music because it should be totally universal and not for one particular scene. So it was very exciting for me to sing to those people.
He added he was shocked by the positive response he has received from fans in the US, particularly New York -- a city with an odd reputation for being "cold" to bands. Wolf said, "People always say that New York crowds are very reserved and you've got to win them over, but it's been just the opposite. It's been almost like a fever." He added he was shocked and pleased to see fans "dressed like him" outside a New York venue.
For the record, New York crowds are far from reserved -- it's just that New York crowds, in my experience, don't have patience for a lot of support acts, particularly if they are before a band we are clamoring to see. That's all. Patrick Wolf? People seem to dig him, so I'm not surprised he's done well.
The singer still has some tour dates left in the US:
He'll then be heading back to the UK and Europe for festival dates, starting at the end of June:
