That sound you hear is hipsters everywhere popping champagne bottles. Nickelback has released 4 million singles off its 2005 album All The Right Reasons, including the new hit "Rockstar," and now the band wants to take a break.
Mike Kroeger, bassist and brother of Chad, summed it all up with this quote to Billboard:
I think it's probably time for us to sort of fade into the shadows for a little bit and give everybody a little bit of a breather. An early return, in my opinion, would be a mistake.
Chad Kroeger agreed that two years of touring was enough for now. However, he did talk about recording new tracks in his home studio. Check out this amazing quote:
Before it was just like, "I'll remember it and it's no big deal." Now it's, like, ideas are precious.
Can we make a better record than All the Right Reasons? I don't know. It's gonna be really tough to make this great, new record jam-packed full of magical moments that we're gonna love and the fans are gonna love. That's all in the stars at the moment.
Those "magical moments" would be "Photograph," "Far Away," "Saving Me," "Animals," "If Everyone Cared," "Rockstar" and "Side of a Bullet," all of which have blown up the various Billboard charts.
So there you go. No new Nickelback for awhile. In the meantime, Chad Kroeger can fill his time working with Santana and offending uptight Canadian parents. Oh, and for all you Nickelback haters, don't get too excited, the band's 700 previous hit singles will still be played every 5 minutes on radio, TV, bars, bowling alleys, supermarkets, and everywhere else with speakers.
