Penstone Kilembe, the Malawian official in charge of overseeing Madonna's adoption, has allegedly been dropped from the case after he asked the singer for money. NME reports that Kilembe was trying to get money from Madonna for a flight to London, and the Malawian government is trying to remove him from the case as a result.
Kilembe, however, denies these charges. He told the AP:
I am not aware of these developments. I have just arrived from New York and nobody from my office has told me anything. I will be in the office tomorrow.
Kilembe was to stay with Madonna's family and observe her parenting skills before making a decision on whether she would be allowed to keep her child. Madonna adopted David Banda a year ago from Malawi and must gain approval from the country's Child Welfare Services in order to retain custody.
