The town's police department was informed of the concert last Monday and felt that it didn't have enough time to ensure that the show went off under proper security conditions, according to the Derby Post. Police cited Banks' history with gun violence as a cause of concern. The G-Unit rapper was shot in 2001 and arrested for possession of a weapon in 2005 when a search of a car he was in turned up a gun. The charges were later dropped.
Chief Inspector Gary Parkin of the Derbyshire Police Department explained the move:
"Because of the lack of preparation time and us finding out at short notice, there hasn't been time to put the proper contingencies in place to make sure the event goes off in a safe environment... I accept that in the current climate, trading is difficult and licensees need to make a living but I have to balance that with the safety of people living in and visiting Derby... We're not saying this type of thing won't happen in Derby but it needs to happen in the right circumstances."Damn, the British are really hating on the hip hop lately.
