For whatever reason unbeknownst to us here at Shoutmouth, heartland rocker John Mellencamp filled in for Roger Ebert this weekend as a film critic. Early reports say Mellencamp didn't do the most fabulous job ever, but he managed to carry the show along.

Mellencamp apparently used the word "fantastic" too often but he redeemed himself with his pick for the week, Grey Gardens. What an odd choice for Mellencamp.

Although Mellencamp might not be synonymous with great filmmaking, The Coug has directed before. Ebert gave Mellencamp's Falling From Grace a four-star rating when it was released in '92. Have any of his records even gotten four-stars?
