Who doesn't love when singers become actors? Well, most people, really... but that doesn't seem to stop them. George Michael is the latest to take the plunge, playing a guardian angel on a show set to debut in the US later this year.
I guess they're hoping our tabloids haven't savaged him the way the British ones have and people still think of him as the "ladies' man" of the 1980s, as opposed to the male cop-soliciting, drug-addicted car-crashing utter failure who keeps the British press on their toes at all times.
Either way, he's signed on for a show called "Eli Stone" and will play a "guardian angel" who appears in dream sequences [also known as "nightmares"] of the lead character, played by Jonny Lee Miller of Trainspotting fame.
Reportedly, a spokesperson for the show said, "George really responded to the concept...and his songs reflect the themes of the show."
This leaves me to wonder: which songs?
"I Want Your Sex"? That's a new take on angels I haven't seen before. Then again, I have read some stories about the Catholic Church....
"Father Figure"? Perhaps Jonny Lee Miller has tiny hands and needs a "preacher, teacher, or anything he likes...."
"Freedom"? Well, what's more free than an angel, flying around, invading dreams, all of that?
"Faith"? Okay, you got me there. You gotta have faith, faith, faith if you're to believe in guardian angels.
Still... seems like a rather bizarre idea for a show and even stranger casting. I'll bet you $5 that it doesn't get past the pilot episode.
