A New York judge has ordered Flavor Flav to pay $1.8 million in damages to a former neighbor in a Bronx apartment complex who he allegedly shot in 1993. His attorneys plan to appeal the ruling due to what they see as a conflict of interest.
According to the New York Post today, Thelouizs English claims that Flav shot him in the Executive Towers in 1993. Flav spent two months in jail and served three years of probation on a weapons possession conviction related to the case in 1995. English then filed an assault and battery civil suit against the Public Enemy member in 1996. Flav claimed to never have been served with papers.
He was on the losing side of a default judgment in the case and ordered to pay $850,000 in damages to English, whose lawyer now claims that with interest should amount to $1.8 million.
Flav's lawyer, however, is appealing the decision on the grounds that the judge presiding over the case, Dianne Renwick, is the wife of Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson. The DA served as the prosecuting attorney when the case was first tried.
Charles Johnson explained his reasoning behind the appeal: "Her actions were retaliatory because her husband lost a series of cases to Flav."
Renwick had earlier tried to excuse herself from the case, but then reneged after finding precedent in her favor.
Wait, what? Flavor Flav may have $2 million to give to this dude? I have to get a VH1 reality show.
