Excellent. America's racist musical discussion has got an official television series to coincide with it.
BET unveils "Hip-Hop Vs. America" this week as a special feature on the Hip Hop congressional hearing. T.I., Nelly, Mike Jones, Cornel West, Al Sharpton and Chuck D (among others) are all scheduled to stop by the "candid town hall meeting"-style program. This sounds disastrous - like New Jack City meets Mayberry or something.
The show will be hosted by BET regulars, Touré and Jeff Johnson, where they will "tackle hip-hop from all sides" with people from the industry, the Black Church, the academic world and the political realm. Things should get nice and heated during the three-part show.
In fact, things have already been a little heated, as rappers from all walks have been hurling their opinions. From Twista, to Ja Rule and especially Master P, who has agreed to testify at the hearing, everyone is putting their opinion out there on this one.
Guests will discuss the current state of hip hop, its relationship to the police and images of Black women in music videos beginning tonight, September 25, at 8 p.m. Should be an expletive filled discussion ... or, uh, maybe that defeats the purpose.
