The movie Joshua opened in limited release last week, and a song by Dave Matthews is featured in one of the film's final scenes.
According to the AP, Joshua is about a young boy whose family is falling apart. The "devlish" child sings the Matthews-penned song to himself before assumedly doing something evil. Matthews says the spooky song was inspired by children that pull the wings off flies.
I thought it was an appropriate analogy for what the kid was doing to his family in sort of this methodical cold way, sort of vengeful way, so since I had that, it wasn't hard at all.
Everything else around that is just an interpretation of the coldness of the song, everything else is his sweetness.
Matthews is involved with ATO Pictures, the company that produced Joshua. Knowing about the picture before it was finished, Matthews asked the director if he could contribute a song.
Matthews also hopes to work on future projects with ATO, but adds that he wouldn't want to impose his ideas onto someone else's vision.
Joshua should open in a wider range of theaters later this month.
