Danity Kane, the all-girl group assembled by Sean "Diddy" Combs on the MTV show Making Da Band, were originally written off by critics who believed the group couldn't make television success translate into album sales. However, the girls proved their doubters wrong by selling over a million copies of their self-titled debut album. Thanks to a combination of pop, R&B and hip hop influences, along with a lot of help from Diddy himself, the group became well known by music fans, even ones who never saw Making Da Band. Since the self-titled album, Danity Kane has survived fights and break-up rumors to become big-time a pop act.
The group consists of 5 girls: Aubrey O'Day, Aundrea Fimbres, Wanita Woodgette, Dawn Richards and Shannon Bex. Unlike some ensemble groups, where there is a lead singer and several back-up singers, all 5 of the members of Danity Kane contribute on the group's album and during live shows. Songs such as "Showstopper" and "Ride For You" became hits for the group. Other songs that were featured in individual episodes of Making Da Band, such as "Sleep On It," were frequently downloaded online. Also, pictures of the girls, all of whom are considered very attractive, are heavily searched on the internet. A combination of all of these factors is no doubt responsible for the group's success.
Danity Kane released an album titled Welcome to the Dollhouse on March 18th, 2008. They also returned to Making Da Band for the show's latest season to document the making of the album. The girls, who all went from obscurity to stardom on Making Da Band, are looking to keep their hot streak going.
Danity Kane's "Showstopper" won the 2007 Poptastic Award for Best Ringtone. You can get "Showstopper" and other Danity Kane ringtones by clicking here.
