Chely Wright went to Baghdad for part of her latest overseas tour, which is sponsored by Stars and Stripes. Stars for Stripes is a charity organization that helps to provide entertainment to U.S. service members in remote locations worldwide. The tour landed Chely at an outdoor stage at Camp Victory, where Chely performed for Ford Hood's III Corps, 3rd signal Brigade, 89th Military Police Brigade, 504th Military Intelligence Brigade and 1st Cavalry Division.
The show was packed with highlights, including Chely giving away guitars and inviting a few soliders onto the stage. Two guitars were given away, one to the solider who had been in Iraq the longest and another who correctly named a song from Chely's first album. One solider, Spc. Travis Bishop, was invited on stage to provide vocals for Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places" and after his performance he handed Chely a demo CD. Chely later advised Bishop to pursue a career in country music.
After the show, Chely stayed with the tropps until around midnight, taking photos and signing autographs. Chely plans to hit up a few more locations in Iraq before heading to Germany.
