A Topeka, Kansas playground will soon be named after Chely Wright, in appreciation of her humanitarian efforts. The playground, to be built in 2007, is a project by the Topeka Association of Retarded Citizens.
The association surprised Wright, who is a Kansas native, with the announcement during her second consecutive acoustic performance timed for the holidays.
Wright said, "This is an unexpected and deeply humbling honor. I'm proud to be part of this community and their continued effort to improve it. Topeka is synonymous with 'community,' a place where citizens become caring neighbors and friends."
