CNN recently asked viewers to send in a bit about "people you should know about" and Otep made the cut, courtesy of a male viewer in Illinois.
His comment? "I would like to see a story on Otep Shamaya. She is the lead singer of the band Otep. She was sexually and emotionally abused as a child and now advocates for kids in that situation. Her lyrics seem to send the message: "Get mad, then get help."
Not sure if that's the best way on earth to promote someone to a new audience. It might have been better to talk about a strong voice, taking on a traditionally male form of music, something like that, but hey, publicity is publicity.
