Busta Rhymes can thank New York Criminal Court Judge Shawndya Simpson for throwing out a weapons charge that prosecutors hoped to bring on the embattled rapper in a case based on an alleged 2006 assault. The arresting officers in the case had found a machete in the back of his SUV.
According to the Associated Press today, the judge would not allow Rhymes to be charged with the extra crime. No reasoning for the rejection was given. The AP also noted that Rhymes stood in quiet throughout the proceedings yesterday, but that he did tell courtroom sketch artists, "I love it when you make me look good."
Always a charmer.
Busta is due back in court December 11 to answer the remaining assault charge.
And while we're here... Memo to Busta's Defense Team: You might want to destroy all the press photos of Busta from his Extinction Level Event days (see right). Juries do not usually relate well with men who at one time dressed like rejected X-Men supervillains.
