In a recent interview, Brian Molko discussed the band's "goth" following -- and how it relates to their inclusion on the Projekt Revolution Tour, while admitting the band, in the early days, were pretty much just "cross dressers."
Speaking with Revolver magazine, Brian said he was excited about seeing all the bands, but especially his friends My Chemical Romance. Despite the bands deveolping a friendship, he's never actually seen them play -- and now has the chance.
Concerning the band's goth following, he said:
We've always had gothic fans because the music we make is quite melancholic, but we were never influenced by goth as a movement. When I hear "goth," I think of Sisters of Mercy and Fields of the Nephilim -- stuff like that. At the beginning of our career, we were more cross-dressers than anything.
He went on to say the the band's plans for the show include little more than going on stage every night and "banging out 35 minutes of intensity." In an environment where elaborate stage shows and costumes rule the world, sometimes, that's really all you want -- some genuine intensity.
Just don't expect this song -- don't even bother yelling it out.
