Finally, Bono gets something out of this whole "helping Africa" deal. The U2 singer was in Philly yesterday to receive the city's prestigious Liberty Medal for his humanitarian work.

Bono has been speaking out on political and social issues for years, and most recently lashed out at the events happening in Myanmar/Burma.

Said Bono, "When you are a monk in Burma this very week, barred from entering a temple because of your gospel of peace... well, then none of us are truly free."

The Philadelphia Liberty Medal was given to Bono and his organization, Debt AIDS Trade Africa, along with a $100,000 cash prize that Bono subsequently donated back to the organization. Former President George H.W. Bush presented the award. Bono also received a Donovan McNabb jersey and a t-shirt with a picture of the Liberty Bell that said "Come To Philadelphia For the Crack!," before the Philadelphians eventually turned on him and started throwing batteries.
