Pitchfork noticed that in an interview today on Canadian publication Eye Weekly's website that Malice of Clipse has announced their split with Jive Records.
Seriously?
Seriously:
"Right now Clipse are free agents," he says. "There are a few labels that are interested."The brothers Thornton have had a notoriously awful relationship with Jive after the years of delays their sophomore album, Hell Hath No Fury, suffered at the hands of the label. According to Eye, the pair still owed the label three albums.
Clipse have been released from their Jive contract?
"Yeah, yeah."
Next up for Clipse will be the release of a Re-Up Gang (their crew which also includes Philly rappers Ab-Liva and Sandman) group album, though it's now unclear where it will be distributed.
Malice's full interview can be read here.
So now all we need to do is get Jive to actually put out Underground Kingz and never, ever sign any MC's with any promise again.
