In a move to get young musicians out of the garage and in front of the XBox, MTV Games will release Rock Band this holiday season after a debut at the E3 Conference. The game will allow rockers to shred hits from the 60's to today, including tracks from the Ramones, Nirvana, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, and more.
The Who will make all of Who's Next available, while Metallica will offer "Enter Sandman" at first and then make their entire catalog available via download. The band says they're "pysched" on their website. You might remember the band's reluctance to embrace new mediums for their music when they (Lars) sued Napster for copyright infringement. So this quick embrace is surprising, but they're probably getting a boatload of money.
The game, published by Harmonix Music Systems, promises to quadruple the fun of Guitar Hero by encouraging collaboration. Players will have a microphone for vocals, guitar controller in the form of a Fender Strat for shredding and a drum apparatus which features the works - snare, hi hat, tom tom, and crash/ride cymbals. According to Wikipedia, the mic "can also be used can also be used as a tambourine and cowbell."
Also included as a track- Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper." 'Nuff said.
