Simon Cowell and the creators of "American Idol" are working on a movie to be released in the summer of 2008. The movie will be based around a so-called fictional reality show, which if you haven't already guessed, will be almost exactly like "American Idol."

The film -- that term is being used loosely -- will follow ten contestants who go on a quest to become famous by participating in this reality show. The movie is titled Star Struck, and will take inspiration from the 1980 classic Fame.

Cowell told the Hollywood Reporter:

We want it to be the musical version of 'Rocky' -- an underdog story, a feel-good film.

'Fame' was all about young people wanting to be famous, and in order to do that, they enrolled in a drama school. The difference 25 years later is that everyone who wants to be famous today signs up for 'American Idol.'

We all know about the infamous box-office disaster From Justin to Kelly. However, Cowell was not involved in that film, and he expects Star Struck will be successful.

The most important thing for the film was the timing. We decided that next summer will be the right time to launch it.

We always believed that a TV show like 'Idol' would be successful. I have the same feeling about doing the movie.

Some people just have the Midas Touch, and Simon Cowell is one of them. When he does something, it becomes a hit, whether it's "AI," "X-Factor," an simple interview, or whatever. Therefore, I fully expect this movie to be huge, and for there to be Star Struck commercials every 2 minutes in June of '08. I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting mentally prepared now. At least it can't be worse than Rocky V.
